Yes! It is time for a major update of our Tripmii iOS App with tons of improvements and new features.

For some of them we already waited a long time 😀

  • What immediately catches the eye: The app has a new icon!
  • The navigation is no longer hidden in a menu, but at the bottom of the app. Thus, it is now much easier to reach.
  • The TripBlog overview got a fresh and modern layout.
  • The TripBlogs can be sorted by relevance, timeliness, popularity, date of creation, travel date and number of stations.
  • You can search for TripBlogs you are interested in.
  • The country pages are now also available in the app: Here you will find the most important travel information, the travel season and all TripBlogs from major destinations.
  • The user profile can now be filled right inside the app … now there are no more excuses 😉

We have fantastic news for all trip bloggers: It’s much easier now to locate places of your journey on the map and create your travel route!

By tapping the arrow-icon you can use your current location to create a destination right were you are. By using the image-and-pin-icon you can easily select one of your photos that includes geo-coordinates. The location where the photo was taken will show up on your map. Now it is just one more tap to add a new destination to your travel route.

You now can also change the map mode: Switch to satellite mode, if the map is not accurate enough (e.g. in China 😉). This way you can find any location in the world incredibly precisely.

Happy travelling!

Adding tips to your TripBlog is the best way to give your followers valuable information about the places you found. Unfortunately sometimes the most important information are missing: How to get there, what are the opening hours or what are other visitors are saying about this location?

To make it a lot easier for you to provide those information, we now give you the possibility to connect your tip with Foursquare or Yelp. And it’s quick and very easy! And the best of all: Your followers only have to click one link in the App or on the Website to open the location on Foursquare or Yelp. There they will get every kind of information about the location they will ever need. And of course, they can also use all the other features Foursquare and Yelp have to offer.

So update the App now and enjoy! ☀️

The App is available for your iPhone.

The larger a TripBlog gets, the longer it takes to load all the destinations and pictures. I would say, this is pretty obviously. Especially if you load Jan’s wonderful TripBlog “Operación Pinwinu Antípoda” with the impressive count of 79 destinations and 732 pictures, it takes about 30 seconds to open the TripBlog. And well … sometimes even the App crashes 🙄

So we thought, there is some room for optimizations! With the latest update of our Tripmii App, being released this week, we speeded up the loading times of the TripBlogs dramatically. What we did, is pretty simple: We reduced the amount of destinations being loaded, when you open the TripBlog. As you only can see one destination at once, why preload all of them?
Now the App only loads the specific destination you want to see and the next destination if you open it. This saves resources of your phone and your data volume … and the app won’t crash anymore while browsing through all those beautiful TripBlogs.

So update the App now and enjoy! 🙂

The App is available for your iPhone.

With the latest update of the Tripmii Website, we improved the user experience for everybody using a mobile device. With the help of the Responsive Design Tripmii now looks awesome on every device, not only on those with a large screen size. Navigation elements, layouts, text, images and other elements re-adjust themselves on the variety of devices for a perfect fit. You don’t have to zoom in and out for reading texts and watching images anymore. Great news … not only for Android users 🙂

Photo Carlo Drechsler

Carlo Drechsler started his surf trip in January 2015 along the west coast of Africa, from Morocco to South Africa, looking for waves and experiences. He crossed the Sahara, visited the magic Pays Dogon, taught at a Senegalese School, discussed with revolutionists in Burkina Faso. After nine months he reached South Africa. Now he’s traveling up the east coast of Africa. If everything goes well, he will be the first Surfer to circle Africa!

News

The news section has always been a good place to stay informed about updates of other Tripmii users, pictures they like or their comments on images and destinations. But it was about time to give the news section an update.

Why not display all those beautiful, inspiring and interesting pictures that comments and likes are all about? Instead of a long, text-intensive list, we now added these pictures, changed the layout from one to three columns and included the awesome TripStamps you can now collect with our latest app. These small changes improve your user experience in a fun and easy way and just look plain beautiful!
We could browse through the updated news section for hours: All those stories, all those brilliant pictures and all the news of our fellow Tripmii travelers ready to discover. With this update became visible, what’s always been there. It’s like lifting a veil – uncovering all those hidden stories 🙂

We want to shout out a big, fat ‘THANK YOU’: Thank you for all the amazing pictures and journeys you are sharing with us and the other travelers!

In the world of social networks there are two elementary principles on how people connect with each other. The “Friendship-Principle” and the “Follower-Principle”. You know Facebook and yes for sure you know Twitter. By now they are offering almost the same flower bouquet of features, but there is still one big difference: It’s the way people connect with to each other. On Facebook people are friends with one another; on Twitter they are following people they are interested in.

But what’s the difference?

Well, to be friends, both have to “follow” each other. There’s no other choice. But if you follow someone, the other one doesn’t have to follow you back. You follow them and if they want to, they can follow you back … or … not. One big advantage of the “Follower-Principle” is, if you don’t want to get any news from someone anymore, you don’t have to finish your friendship with him. And in the case the other one is also following you, he will carry on following you and also will carry on getting news from you. This gives you much more flexibility on which news you want to get and in which you are not interested anymore.

By the way: Finishing a friendship in the social media world still fells like breaking up a friendship in the real world. Did you ever tried to finish a friendship on Facebook with someone you know? 😉

Tripmii gets the “Follower-Principle”

Since the beginning of Tripmii, Tripmii used the “Friendship-Principle”, but now it’s time to switch to the “Follower-Principle”. The main feature of Tripmii is writing Tripblogs, in other words sharing travel-experinces while travelling the world with other travellers out there or get inspired by other Tripmii travellers’ journeys out there. So it feels much more natural to us to give you more freedom of choice on who to follow and getting news and updates from – rather than having to ask for a friendship first.

Most of the other social media platforms like Instagram or Pinterest are also using the “Follower-Principle”.

What does this mean for you and your friends after we did the switch?

All of your friends, will be your followers and you will follow them back. That’s pretty much the same way as it was before regarding news, updates etc. From that point on you can decide on whom you want to follow and whom not. Find interesting people on an interesting journey and chose to follow them if you’d like to stay updated … it’s not required to know them in the real world! And following definetly won’t feel anywhere close to as akward as asking strangers for a friendship!

Follow people, if you want to receive news & updates; unfollow them, if you don’t want to get updates anymore … and maybe  start following them again later. It’s up to you, it’s that easy!

Another new feature is, that you are now able to block people. We hope, you will never need this, but if you feel someone is getting too personal or anything – e.g. with his/her comments on your pictures, you can block him/her immediately. They won’t get any news, can’t follow you, can’t comment on your pictures anymore and won’t be able to view the pictures you put for followers only.

We think, that this principle fits much better with Tripmii and your interests.
